To rekindle the emotions of Social harmony, a mammoth Narmada Kumbh Mela has been organized at Mandla region of Madhya Pradesh from 10th to 12th February , 2011. Nearly 30 lakh people are expected to participate on these days from all spectrum of the society. Matha Narmada Kumbh Mela will be a small replica of whole Nation.
The mega event will include religious, cultural and social programs that will guide people to eradicate inhuman practices like, untouchability, casteism, dowry, female foeticide.
According to the chief organizer, “the root of all national & international problems is, the divided Hindu society. Uniting whole Hindu society is the only solution. It will achieved through creating awareness among the mass and making them to shed their false pride of caste, language and region. The event will also showcase the importance of restoring our family values and ethos. In this regard, there are special programme for the youth too. A united and strong society can only withstand the onslaught of terrorism, naxalism, separatism and brutal acts of converting our beloved brothers and sisters”.
The historical significance Under the noble guidance of Shri Adiguru Shankaracharya and other saints, the Social kumbhmelas were initiated to reestablish the Hindu heritage and culture.
Matha Narmada, who is believed to be a daughter of Lord Shiva, takes birth in Amarkantak and then flows in the central India to join Sindu Sagar(Arabian Sea).
The holy city, Mandla is situated on the banks of river Narmada. In puranas, it was called as Mahashmathi. Karthaveerya Sahasrarjuna meditated here and was blessed with powers by Lord Dattathreya. Using those powers, he was able to defeat mighty Ravan.
In the puranas, it is mentioned that, the author of Mahabharatha, Shri Vedavyasa resided here. He was mesmerized by the beauty of the nature here. Its believed that, shri Vedavyasa simplified and edited the Vedas. Stil today ,the temple of Vyasa Narayana is present on the north bank of Mandla.
Shri Adi Shankaracharya also visited the house of Mandanmithra, which was located on the banks of the river Narmada. From here, the birth of new nationalistic path took place and led to the establishment of four religious branches in all four parts of the country.
You must have heard the name of the queen Durgavathi. She was very courageous and a skilled warrior. She married the prince of Gada Mandla, Dalpath Shah. After his death, she led the kingdom. Inspite of having a smaller army, she faced the mighty army of King Akbar and defeated one of his minister Asif Khan.
But, when Asif Khan attacked her again, she faced the defeat because, many of her army men deceived her. She became martyr in the battleground while fighting the enemy bravely.
